Why Should We Celebrate Christmas

In this short study we will take a look at some of the arguments and issues and consider some of the biblical options open to us as believers.

Why should we celebrate christmas. We don t have to curse and go around acting bad with our words. Christmas has become so commercialized that the center of the celebration has totally drifted away from the real reason why christians should rejoice and celebrate this meaningful season. We celebrate the lord who in humility took on the very nature of a servant for our sakes see philippians 2 6 8. The bible nowhere tells us to observe a holiday celebrating jesus christ s birth but it clearly does tell us to commemorate his death.

It s a valid question. Putting christ back in christmas may sound like a nice sentiment but it s really only a misguided effort to try to justify a long standing human tradition rather than what the bible tells us we should do. There are equally sincere and committed christians on both sides of the issue each with multiple reasons why or why not christmas should be celebrated in christian homes. I personally do not agree with that conclusion.

Should we assert that to celebrate christmas is to promote paganism and materialism and thus is just not the biblical thing to do. The history of christmas goes back to the beginning of our era. We don t need any molotov cocktails. Christmas is a time of fun family and gifts for many.

We don t need any bricks and bottles. In celebrating christmas we celebrate the savior because we needed deliverance. The bible does not command us to commemorate christ s birth but rather his death. The debate about whether or not christians should celebrate christmas has been raging for centuries.

But we shouldn t rob this family or anyone else of celebrating the traditions that they hold dear. However why do we actually celebrate christmas. Although it is true that many traditional christmas customs find their origins in pagan practices these ancient and forgotten associations are far removed from the hearts of christian worshipers today at. As i like to say we can t expect others to abandon their values any more than we would forsake our own thanks for taking the time to write.

Should christians celebrate christmas answer. We celebrate the christ in whom all of god s promises are yes and amen 2 corinthians 1 20. We also often read that christmas is a pagan holiday and has nothing to do with jesus because first and foremost jesus was not born on december 25.

We just need to go around to these stores and to these massive industries in our country and say god sent us by here to say to you that you re not treating his children right.
